Softball drops one to SW

 South Windsor 7, Newington 1: Indians head coach Steve Markie knew his team was in for a tough matchup against the Bobcats’ All-State pitcher, Maria Hanchuk. 

He was right. 

Hanchuk struck out 12 Newington batters and allowed just one hit. 

“We knew we were going to have to grind it out against an All-State pitcher,” Markie said. “Once we fell behind, that was it, but we managed to put the ball in play, which was good.” 

McKenna DeLucca got the only hit for the Indians (2-1). She also scored the team’s lone run and stole two bases.
