Softball season comes to a closeWednesday, May 29, 2013 The Newington Indians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on hits from Dana Gionfriddo, Laura Salerni and Haley Blais, but Daniel Hand proved to be too much, eliminating the Indians 14-3 in the first round of the Class LL state tournament. The Indians stranded four girls on base through the first three innings, and in the bottom of the third, Daniel Hand scored five runs to take the lead. With the lead in hand, the Tigers never looked back, tacking on two more in each of the fourth and fifth, and then opening up for five more in the sixth. Blais led the way for the Indians.
