Key Departures: Laura Salerni, Meg Florek, Kaylee Grenier

Key Returnees: Olivia Burgos (jr.), Dana Gionfriddo (sr.), Briana Woods (sr.), Alyssa Bellizzi (soph.), Alyssa Frohock (sr.)

Outlook: Newington had a successful season in 2013, sneaking into the Class LL playoffs before falling to Daniel Hand in the first round.

The Indians are bringing back some key pieces from last year’s squad, including a big strikeout pitcher in junior Olivia Burgos. Dana Gionfriddo, Briana Woods, Alyssa Bellizzi and Alyssa Frohock will all play prevalent roles in the 2014 season as well.

“Seniors Dana Gionfriddo and Alyssa Frohock have shown great leadership thus far and if Woods and Bellizzi can have offensive seasons similar to last season, the team can compete with Southington, Conard and Simsbury among the top teams in the CCC West,” Newington coach Steve Markie said.
